Middletown, N.J. – The National Park Service (NPS) has issued a call for nominations for individuals who wish to serve a three-year term as a member of the Fort Hancock 21st Century Federal Advisory Committee. The 60-day period for applications will end on October 25, 2021.

Since its first meeting in January 2013, this committee has advised Gateway National Recreation Area on how to preserve the historic buildings of Fort Hancock and Sandy Hook Proving Ground National Historic Landmark through historic reuse. Information about buildings available for lease, past meetings, committee membership, and the Federal Advisory Committee Act may be found on the committee website at Forthancock21.org.

“Committee members, with their passion and expertise, have been essential to the progress we’ve made at Fort Hancock,” said Gateway Superintendent Jen Nersesian. “They have consistently helped push the Fort Hancock leasing program forward, ensuring that public input plays a robust role in determining the future of these historic buildings.”

The Committee consists of representatives from among, but not limited to, the following groups representing a range of interests concerned with the management of Fort Hancock within the park and its impact on the local area: the natural resource community, the business community, the cultural resource community, the real estate community, the recreation community, the education community, the scientific community, and hospitality organizations. The Committee will also include representatives from the following municipalities: Borough of Highlands, Borough of Sea Bright, Borough of Rumson, Middletown Township, Monmouth County Freeholders/Commissioners, and Borough of Monmouth Beach. In this Call for Nominations, NPS is seeking members to represent all categories.

The Call for Nominations has been published in the Federal Register.  For more information, please contact Daphne Yun at (917) 9282-9393 or Daphne_Yun@nps.gov. Applications should be mailed to Daphne Yun, Gateway National Recreation Area, 210 New York Avenue, Staten Island, New York, 10305 or emailed to Daphne_Yun@nps.gov.  This includes current members who wish to serve another term. Applications can only be accepted from the applicants themselves. Applicants should document their qualifications for membership and include a resume listing their full name, title, address, telephone, e-mail, and date of birth. After reviewing the applications, Gateway will submit nominations, which will be vetted through the Department of Interior and the White House.
