Water samples taken this week at Jacob Riis Park revealed above-normal levels of bacteria in excess of New York State and National Park Service standards for in-water recreational activity. Therefore, due to the increased human health risk, the National Park Service has closed the beach to swimming until further notice. Visitors will still be able to use the beach, surrounding picnic grounds, and recreation areas. The waters around Jacob Riis Park will be tested daily to determine when water quality is within accepted standards so that the beach can be re-opened for swimming.
