Highlands, N.J. --The National Park Service (NPS) has issued a Call for Nominations for individuals who wish to serve at three-year term as a member of the Gateway National Recreation Area Fort Hancock 21st Century Federal Advisory Committee. The 30-day period for applications will end on Friday, October 4, 2019.
The purpose of the committee is to advise the park on the development of its historic leasing program in the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. “Committee members, with their passion and experience, have been essential to the progress we’ve made at Fort Hancock,” said Gateway Superintendent Jen Nersesian. “They have consistently helped push the process forward, and bring essential expertise to the table.”
Those who wish to be selected as members of this Committee must submit (mail) applications to the office of Gateway’s Superintendent with a postmark no later than October 4, 2019. Applications can only be accepted from the applicants themselves. Applicants should document their qualifications for membership and include a resume listing their name, title, address, telephone, e-mail, date of birth, and previous names including maiden names.
After the park nominates individuals for membership, nominations are vetted through the Department of Interior and the White House. Members are appointed by the Secretary of Interior for a term not to exceed three years or the life of the Committee, whichever is shorter.
In this Call for Nomination, applications are sought specifically from the hospitality and recreation communities. Nominations are not limited, however, to representatives of these groups.
Committee members will be selected based on the following criteria: (1) ability to collaborate, (2) the ability to understand NPS management and policy, and (3) connection with local communities. No individual who is currently registered as a Federal lobbyist is eligible to serve on the Committee. Members serve without compensation.
Applications should be mailed to: Gateway National Recreation Area, Office of the Superintendent, ATTN: Daphne Yun, 210 New York Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10305.
The Call for Nominations has been published in the Federal Register. For more information, contact Public Affairs Specialist Daphne Yun at 718-815-3651 or e-mail us.
