Fort Tilden, a solo show of recent paintings by Chris Wright will begin on Saturday April 7 with an opening reception from 2 to 4 pm at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Please come to see the show and greet the artist.Chris Wright paints en plein air--the act of painting outdoors. This method contrasts with studio painting or academic rules that might create a predetermined look. You have seen these artists, sometimes standing and painting at easels with paint boxes at their feet, or seated with their pochade, or paint box and easel combined. They work painstakingly capturing nature with all their senses and transferring the look and feel to the canvas.
Visitors to Fort Tilden may have seen Chris Wright, diligently working on his paintings that capture the landscape so well, you can almost feel the breeze and smell the salt air on his canvases. His exhibit, Fort Tilden will feature landscapes of that beautiful spot of seashore are luminous, atmospheric and sensual. In addition to the landscapes he will display some cloud studies as well.
Originally from the west coast, Wright received his MFA from Pratt Institute and has taught there since 1999. He has had numerous exhibitions and shows from coast to coast, his works are included in many publications including New American Paintings and American Art Collector.
