ANNISTON, AL – Due to growing interest from visitors, Freedom Riders National Monument (FRRI) will expand the Anniston Greyhound Bus Depot hours. The building will open to the public on Friday afternoons from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm in addition to FRRI's existing weekend hours.
The Anniston Greyhound Bus Depot at 1031 Gurnee Avenue served as a stop along the normal transit route between Atlanta and Birmingham and witnessed the early stages of the attack on Freedom Riders during May of 1961. The historic building began to open to the public regularly in April of 2021 as an exhibit space.
The Anniston Greyhound Bus Depot will host a new traveling exhibit in June and July. Titled Emancipation and Its Legacies, this exhibit was created by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and explores the legacies of emancipation in the United States.
Emancipation and Its Legacies will open to the public on Saturday, June 12 and close on Sunday, July 11. Updated public hours for the Greyhound Bus Depot will begin on Friday, June 18.
