Park staff and the Friendship Hill Association invite the public to visit Albert Gallatin’s home to commemorate the Whiskey Rebellion. On September 2 and September 3, 2023, programs and displays will be offered at Friendship Hill National Historic Site. Programs include blacksmithing, wood carving, pottery, quilting and other educational displays. On Saturday, the Westmoreland Archaeological Club will display their collection.

Programs include a visit by Albert Gallatin, portrayed by Ron Duquette. Learn about Gallatin’s recent return to America after serving in France as our Ambassador. Federal troops, park staff and volunteers in costume, will present a program on the artillery brought over the mountains to suppress the rebellion. Cannon talks and firing demonstrations are each day at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

“We are extremely excited to be a part of the planning and program,” noted Association President George Relic. “The Whiskey Rebellion certainly brought attention to Gallatin as he started his political career.”

In September, the Gallatin house will host a temporary exhibit on Lafayette. The exhibit highlights the Frenchman’s military career and later historic travel to the United States in 1824 and 1825. From May 27 to May 28, 1825, Gallatin played host to Lafayette’s visit to Friendship Hill.
