The mission of the Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie Archives mirrors that of the National Park Service – to protect and preserve the park’s resources for the enjoyment and education of current and future generations.

The Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie Archives are home to the history of the park, documenting the natural and cultural resource records created by the National Park Service. In addition to the history of Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park, the collections also preserve the history of Gullah Geechee culture and Indigenous People that inhabited the site before, during, and after the European American history of the park. Maps, historic photographs, and oral histories are just a few examples of the records maintained in the archives.

For any research requests, please email us at [e-mail]. Access to the Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie collections are available by appointment only. Research visits are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Research registration forms will need to be filled out and signed through email or hard copy.
