National Park Service Northeast Regional Director Gay Vietzke has named Kevin Wyrick as the superintendent of Fort Stanwix National Monument in Rome, New York. Wyrick currently serves as chief of operations at Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon, Georgia, where he oversees law enforcement and emergency services, interpretation and education, resource stewardship and management and administration. Wyrick will begin his new assignment later this summer.

"We are very excited to welcome Kevin to our region,” said Vietzke. “Kevin brings with him a wealth of experience in park operations and a great sense of humor. I know he is looking forward to working side-by-side with the dedicated park staff and partners at Fort Stanwix."

“I’m greatly humbled and honored to join the Northeast Region team and the Fort Stanwix family,” said Wyrick. “My top priority is to address the operational needs of the employees while rectifying the deferred maintenance needs of the fort. We all want to ensure this iconic structure is enjoyed for many years to come as an important chapter in American history and as part of Rome’s revitalization.”

Deferred maintenance projects at Fort Stanwix include the rehabilitation of the northern casemate, which houses last remnants of an original brick hearth from the 1700s, and repair and replacement of approximately 600 linear feet of retaining log walls.

During his 20-year federal career, Wyrick has held a variety of positions in the Southeast Region, including serving as chief of visitor services at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. Prior to joining the National Park Service, Wyrick was a seasonal recreation forestry aid with the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina.

Wyrick, his wife Melissa, a former NPS interpreter and firefighter, their three children, Matty, Cooper and Jake, and dog Koko look forward to moving to the region. Wyrick and his family are excited to camp, boat, and ski in the majestic Adirondack Mountains of northeastern New York state.
