News Release Date: August 10, 2011 On Sunday, August 14, Steuben Memorial State Historic Site will focus on the significance of the Baron's role in transforming the Continental Army into a working community. Steuben's training at Valley Forge brought the Continental Army together as one, both on and off the battlefield, and was key to the success of America's independence. Join staff from Fort Stanwix National Monument for a day in the life of General von Steuben's Army! Hands-on activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. such as marching, drilling, and military drum signals will illustrate the importance of community not only within the Continental Army, but in our lives today. Steuben Memorial State Historic Site is located between Starr Hill Road and NY Route 12 in Remsen, NY. The grounds are open 10 a.m. to dusk, 7 days a week. Through a partnership between the National Park Service and the New York State Office Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, national park rangers provide special programs at the memorial.
