On Thursday March 3, the Rome City School District and Fort Stanwix National Monument will unveil the city-wide Fort Stanwix Art Show exhibit.  Students from across the school district are invited to participate in a reception taking place at the park visitor center from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on opening day. The display, in honor of the National Park Service’s Centennial year and Fort Stanwix’s fortieth anniversary of opening, was spearheaded by school district art teacher Amy VanMeter and features multi-media art, inspired by the history and events at Fort Stanwix, and created by local students.
“Come down and experience our shared history as seen through the eyes of local young artists,” said park Education Coordinator, Valerie Morgan. “The National Park Service Centennial is about creating opportunities for the nation’s youth to connect to their parks. Fort Stanwix is excited to showcase the creative work connections made by Rome CSD students through their art.”
The art show runs through March 28th at the Fort Stanwix visitor center and then will move to the Rome Memorial Hospital lobby and Rome City Hall.
Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the park is free. For more information about upcoming events please call the park at (315) 338-7730.
