National Park Week is a yearly celebration for recognition of Your National Parks. On Saturday, April 26, 2008, Fort Stanwix National Monument and other National Parks will be giving special focus to those the National Park Service would like to call “Junior Rangers,” with the second annual NPS Junior Ranger Day. Special programs will take place throughout the nation.

Here in Central New York, Fort Stanwix National Monument will be hosting a special Junior Ranger program. During this free program park staff will give children ages 7-13 the opportunity to experience
a bit of what life was like for a frontier soldier during the American Revolutionary War, but at other important frontier outposts as well! The program will take place all day at the Willett Center and throughout the fort. Children will be encouraged to pick a time period to learn about and then compare life at Fort Stanwix then to their life today.

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week,
9 a.m. – 5 p.m., except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Days. Admissions to the Marinus Willett Center and fort are free. Visitors are encouraged to start their experience at the Willett Center at the intersection of West Dominick and James Streets. A park ranger can assist you in planning your visit. For more information about upcoming events call the park at 315-338-7730. Please visit the park’s webpage at for additional information.
