Rome, NY — How many of you find yourselves intrigued by bone-chilling tales – especially at this time of year? During the American Revolution the soldiers and families of Fort Stanwix lived in fear every day they served at this wilderness outpost. Come for a candlelight visit of the fort and learn of three historical events that made life at the fort terrifying at any time of day. This program is for people of all ages; children and adults, individuals and families.
The event will be held on Saturday, October 25 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. All visitors to the park should meet at the Marinus Willett Center, located at the corner of Dominick and James Streets, to get their tickets and gather for the guided walk through the fort. Tours will leave from the rear door of the Willett Center at 6:00, 6:20, 6:40, 7:00, 7:20, and 7:40 p.m., and will have space for 25 people each.
“We are very excited that visitors are beginning to look forward to this event,” says Valerie Morgan, Park Ranger. “About 100 people attended the Saturday, October 18 evening event and everyone said they had a great time. We are looking to repeat this experience for the people who visit this Saturday evening.” Come in and discover a few more reasons why history shouldn’t repeat itself!
Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. Activities are ongoing unless noted.
