Rome, NY: As part of the park's 75th Anniversary events, teachers, professors and educators from around the state are invited to Fort Stanwix National Monument for a special Educator's Encampment July 10th and 11th. Educators of every age from preschool to lifelong learning, and from disciplines such as special education, music, art and physical education are encouraged to participate in the encampment. The encampment will include hands-on experiences such as making dinner in the fireplace, drilling with muskets, and spending the night in the soldiers' barracks, amongst other exciting activities. Along with the many experiential opportunities to share with your students, you will be provided with materials to take back to your classrooms and use in your lessons and a certificate of participation for potential in-service credit. The program will run from 3 p.m. Saturday, July 10th to 10 a.m. Sunday, July 11th. Please remember that because you will be living "in the 18th century," plan to share rooms with other people. Due to available space, the program is limited to only 100 people; reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis. The last day to register for the program is Saturday, July 3rd. In addition, because of space limitations, family members will not be able to participate in the program. If less than 50 people make reservations the program will be canceled. For more information, please contact the park's education coordinator, Valerie Morgan at 315-336-4448. |
