Luckily, signing a piece of paper today is rarely a matter of life and death. For the men who signed the Declaration of Independence, and the soldiers in George Washington's army, that's exactly what it was. On Thursday, July 4th, come to Fort Stanwix National Monument and follow in the footsteps of those who won our independence by signing your own "John Hancock" on the Declaration of Independence. At 10:15 am and 1 pm, join the 3rd New York Regiment and receive training to be a Continental Soldier. Then, at 11 am and 2 pm, assemble with your fellow soldiers as honor guards for the official readings of the Declaration of Independence outside the fort walls. Additional activities throughout the day include: Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm. Admission to the park is free. Activities are ongoing unless noted. For more information about upcoming events please call the park at (315) 338-7730.
