Rome, NY: To celebrate Fort Stanwix National Monument's 75th birthday the park will host a series of special events throughout the year. These events were developed in close cooperation with representatives from the city, community groups, park partners, and the park. Events will include a temporary exhibit, father-son, mother-daughter and family encampments, and an educators' encampment, and topping off with a grand 75th birthday party the weekend of August 21 and 22, 2010. Come out, enjoy and celebrate Fort Stanwix National Monument's 75th birthday.

National Park Week
April 18 to 24, Sunday to Saturday

National Park Week is an annual Presidentially proclaimed week for celebration and recognition of Your National Parks. Take a moment, an hour or a day this year to visit the national parks near you; events are ongoing throughout week. At Fort Stanwix National Monument, afternoon programs will focus on the park's 75th birthday. These programs will be presented from 1:30 to 3 p.m. each day at the Willett Center, located at the intersection of James and Dominick Streets.

Spring Father-Son Encampment
June 12 and 13, Saturday and Sunday
3 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday
Join park staff, volunteers and partners for a unique opportunity to camp overnight at Fort Stanwix during this special 75th anniversary event. Become a Continental Soldier for a night. Enjoy a catered dinner, and march, drill, stand guard duty, sew a haversack and enjoy an evening campfire program. Please remember that because you will be a soldier in the 18th century plan to share rooms with other families. Sons are defined as boys from the ages of 5 to 17. Due to available space, the program is limited to only 100 people; reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis. If less than 50 people make reservations the program will be canceled. More details about the event and signing up will be released on May 5th.

Museum Collections Tours
June 29 to August 25, Tuesday and Wednesday
10:30 to 11:15 a.m.
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from June 29 to August 25, join park curators for a behind the scenes look at the park museum collection. Learn what it means to take care of a collection and why the park has a collection in the first place. The tour is for people ages 16 and older, and the group size is limited to 8. Sign up is on a first come basis the same day as the tour at the Willett Center Information Desk.

Summer Educator's Encampment
July 10 and 11, Saturday and Sunday
3 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday
Join park staff, volunteers and partners for a unique opportunity to camp overnight at Fort Stanwix for educators who teach students of all grades and ages during this special 75th anniversary event. Become a Continental Soldier and Camp Follower for a night. This is an emersion program for educators to learn about Fort Stanwix, life at an 18th century frontier fortification, and park education programs. During this program you will cook your dinner in the fireplace, march, drill, stand guard duty, and learn 18 th century military and popular tunes. Along with these activities, journal writing, collaboration with other educators, and a make-and-take project will provide you valuable ideas and materials to take back to your classroom. Please remember that because you will be a soldier and camp follower in the 18th century plan to share rooms with other people. Due to available space, the program is limited to only 100 people; reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis. If less than 50 people make reservations the program will be canceled. Fun at the Fort - 75th Anniversary
August 3, Tuesday
10 to 11:30 a.m.
On Tuesdays, from July 6 to August 3, join park staff as you explore the history of the fort, and have some fun! Each program is different, and includes a hands-on activity as well as something to take home to remember your time at the park. These drop-in programs will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on the James Street lawn in front of the Willett Center.

Become a Camp Follower exploring women’s history for a night. Enjoy a catered dinner, explore the lives of women and girls during the American Revolutionary War, sew a pocket, and enjoy an evening campfire program. Please remember that because you will be a camp follower in the 18th century plan to share rooms with other families. Daughters are defined as girls from the ages of 5 to 17. Due to available space, the program is limited to only 100 people; reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis. If less than 50 people make reservations the program will be canceled. More details about the event and signing up will be released on June 30th.

75th Anniversary of Fort Stanwix National Monument
August 21 to 22, Saturday and Sunday
Come and celebrate the establishment of Fort Stanwix National Monument. The national monument was established on August 21, 1935. On Saturday, August 21st events will include a living history encampment, behind the scenes tours, special family programs, and a birthday celebration, concert, dance, and ice cream and birthday cake social. On Sunday, August 22nd the living history encampment, behind the scenes tours and special family programs will continue. Additionally, there will be a special event at the Capitol Theater; 1935 at the Movies. More details about the event will be released on July 21st.

Founder's Day and 4th Annual Fort Stanwix Junior Ranger Day

The National Park Service was founded on August 25, 1916, and now manages 392 national parks, historic sites, and monuments. Come to Fort Stanwix today and enjoy special programming honoring Fort Stanwix National Monument and 93 years of national parks! Activities include planning your own park and learning how to plan an adventure anywhere! Learn how you can help parks improve for the "enjoyment of future generations." Programs throughout the day.

Fall Family Encampment - Ghost Hunting at Fort Stanwix
October 16 and 17, Saturday and Sunday
3 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday
Join park staff, volunteers and partners for a unique opportunity to search for ghosts and camp overnight at Fort Stanwix. Search for what goes bump in the night during this special 75th anniversary event. Enjoy a catered dinner and a campfire program, and then join a paranormal investigation team and learn the techniques used to search for ghostly activity. Due to space limitations only 100 people may attend the program. Then only 50 people will camp overnight at the fort. If less than 40 people make reservations for the overnight camping opportunity, the activity will be canceled. For the people camping overnight at the fort, remember that space was limited in 18th century forts. Please plan to share rooms with other families. More details about the event and signing up will be released on September 9th.

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the park is free. Activities are ongoing unless noted.
