Alexander White: The First Royal Sheriff of Oneida County

In the months after the fighting at Lexington and Concord, rebel Committees of Safety and other political organizations rushed to assume power in their colonies while royal government officials struggled to maintain their authority. Not surprisingly, this situation brought about struggles of will and power, as well as physical conflicts. Such was the case of Alexander White, the first Royal Sheriff of Tryon County.
