Celebrate America in Your National Parks

The National Park Service and Fort Pulaski National Monument will celebrate the Nation’s 238th Birthday with family-friendly programs on July 4, 2014.

A special program featuring the flags that flew over Fort Pulaski during the Civil War era will be offered at 11:00 AM and again at 2:00 PM. The fort, which changed hands twice during the Civil War era, saw four different flags flying from its flagstaff at one time or another. The flags of Fort Pulaski will be raised and lowered with a brief discussion of the historical events associated with each flag.

There will be cannon firing demonstrations at 12:00 noon and at 3:00 PM. These historic weapons demonstrations will be performed by park staff and volunteers dressed as Civil War soldiers.

Children will be able to play and interact with National Park Service employees and volunteers, as they participate in hands-on activities, to include arts and crafts and musket drills.
