Private sector support for America's national parks is a tradition as old as the parks themselves. Even before the National Park Service (NPS) was established in 1916, citizens were stepping forward to protect special places exemplifying the United States of America's national heritage. Friends of Fort McHenry

Founded in 1985, The Friends of Fort McHenry, a program of Living Classrooms Foundation, are the primary advocates for Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine. Through fundraising initiatives and outreach efforts with local, state, and national leaders, the Friends work to ensure the widest possible appreciation of Fort McHenry’s enduring legacy and the fort’s survival as an “historic shrine” for future generations of Americans.

 

National Park Foundation

The National Park Foundation is the official charity of America’s national parks and nonprofit partner to the National Park Service. Chartered by Congress in 1967, the National Park Foundation raises private funds to help protect more than 84 million acres of national parks through critical conservation and preservation efforts, connect all people with their incomparable natural landscapes, vibrant culture and rich history, and engage the next generation of park stewards.
