St. Simons Island, GA—Fort Frederica will reopen to the public on Saturday, October 12, 2024, after being closed since August 25, because of the effects of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The park staff have been hard at work clearing downed trees and debris. A regional Incident Management Team was called in to support operations, and a skilled team from several different park service units were brought in to assist with cleanup. The park grounds are open 9 am – 5 pm, daily, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
