Geology (Unit 2) - Florissant Fossil Quarry: Florissant Formation

The commercial quarry to the north of the Monument is one of the best exposures of the lower shale unit of the Florissant Formation (which does not outcrop within the Monument). In the photo below, Nancy Anderson, one of the owners, poses in front of the cleared rock face.
