The National Park Service is one of four Federal agencies that participate in the Interagency Joint Apprenticeship Program. The program consists of a two-part residence training program combined with on-the-job work experience designed to develop the wildland fire service's entry level fireline supervisors commonly known as Firefighter Type 1's. The program is designed to take 2–3 years to complete and is registered with the Department of Labor in the National Apprentice System.
