A structure fire is any fire that is not a wildland fire.
The National Park Service maintains a structural fire program that meets the diversity and complexity of the different units of the System. The Structural Fire Program ensures that fire protection is provided in a safe and cost effective manner by qualified personnel.
NPS structure firefighters will respond to many types of fires including vehicle, motorhome, dumpster, and trash fires in addition to fires in buildings. Medical calls, Search and Rescue (SAR), hazardous materials (Hazmat) and even providing assistance for landing helicopters are just some of the interesting incidents NPS structure firefighters get called for.
