Professor of Land
Resources and Environmental Sciences

Educational Background: B.S. Microbiology, Ohio State University; M.S. and Ph.D. Bacteriology, University of Wisconsin- Madison.

Hobbies: Skiing, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, fly-fishing, driving his MGB sportscar, reading, walking the dog, taking trips with his wife.

Musical Tastes: Everything, especially country and zydeco.

Best part about being a scientist: “Things change every day- discoveries are very satisfying and lead to new questions; failed experiments make you scratch your head and go back to the drawing board to try to figure out how nature works.”

Research: Is there any such thing as “species” of bacteria, like those of plants and animals that are adapted to specific niches?
