A new shuttle service in the Reds Meadow Valley will provide new opportunities for visitors and commercial tours this season. Outside of the mandatory Reds Meadow/Devils Postpile shuttle, which will run from June 22-September 4 this season, visitors will have the opportunity to use a shuttle that will run between Devils Postpile National Monument and Reds Meadow Resort on weekends in June and September.

This service will alleviate traffic and parking congestion and allow visitors to complete the "loop" hike from Devils Postpile to Rainbow Falls and take the shuttle bus back to their vehicles. Funding for the enhanced transportation service is supported directly from the fee revenues collected from the regular season shuttle bus operations.

This new weekend service, combined with the regular Reds Meadow Shuttle service, and a new offering from Eastern Sierra Transit to provide service from local lodging when buses into Reds Meadow and Devils Postpile are not running will also make it easier for commercial tours to visit Devils Postpile National Monument. To decrease risks and provide for the safety of all visitors traveling on the narrow road accessing Devils Postpile National Monument, Devils Postpile has restricted the length of vehicles on the section of road in the monument to 37 feet.

For commercial tours in vehicles longer than 37 feet, Eastern Sierra Transit will provide a variety of services to facilitate tours entering the monument. All commercial tours must apply for a commercial use permit to enter Devils Postpile National Monument. Contact the monument at 760-924-5505 for more information and to learn about options for entering the monument. Tour operators can also contact Eastern Sierra Transit at 760-872-1901 to discuss transportation needs.

Recreational vehicles longer than 37 feet are advised to use Forest Service campgrounds that will accommodate 37 foot vehicles and utilize the Reds Meadow Shuttle or the intervalley shuttle bus if visiting Devils Postpile. The shuttle bus is free within the valley.

Vehicles longer than 37 feet associated with accredited school groups are always welcome. A special use permit is required.

The roads in the Reds Meadow Valley are narrow and visibility is limited. All vehicles should use caution on both the Reds Meadow and Devils Postpile roads. For more information, contact us at 760-924-5505 or at e-mail us.
