Devils Postpile National Monument will be closed for the remainder of the season on Friday, October 27. There wil be no facilities, services, nor parking within the National Monument. No public programs, water, or bathroom facilities will be available.
The National Monument has historically closed sometime between October 15 and the end of October due to winter storms. This year, the first snowfall was on September 30. Recent weather has allowed us to operate longer this year, but with cooler temperatures on the horizon, the park is preparing for winter. Please visit our website for more information at https://www.nps.gov/depo/index.htm
Reds Meadow Road construction is ongoing, and vehicle access is only available on weekends until weather conditions change. No overnight parking is available within Reds Meadow Valley. In winter, the road is not plowed during or after snowstorms. Once closed for the season, Reds Meadow Road will not reopen to the public before June of 2024. More information about Reds Meadow Road is available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/inyo/learning/safety-ethics/?cid=FSEPRD1127643
While the road is closed, visitors may still access destinations within Reds Meadow by utilizing existing trail networks but must also be aware there are no services in the area. Please bring water and be prepared for a backcountry experience. In case of emergency, please contact 911 for assistance.
