SRO Update for April 7, 2016

April 07, 2016 Posted by: Riley Tingue, Road Crew Supervisor
two large machines plow a snowy road on a hillside under a beautiful blue skyCurrent Plow Crew Work Locations: The crew made it to mile 59 yesterday (Top of Highway Pass). The snow was heavily drifted as usual and progress slowed. From miles 56 to 66 is typically the slowest going due to the increased amount of snow and drifting.

Steam Crew Locations: Hard to find any ice this spring. We've cut back to one steam crew.

Snow Depths: 6' to 12' in the ditch. 30-40'' is the average depth on the road

Aufeis Depths: 0

Road Open to Public Traffic: Teklanika Rest Stop.

Equipment Status
: All is well. The auto shop has been excellent at repairing all the minor breakdowns that have happened along the way

Road Crew Staff On-Duty Today: Will Chesley, Mike McAloon, Mary Pearson, Stacy Skrivanek, Lance Greene, Cruiser, Trent Bartlett

Current Weather Forecast. Possible precipitation in the forecast.

Current Weather at HQ: 30 above and sunny

Wildlife Sightings: Two friendly French mushers and five beautiful dogs.

Notes/Observations/Comments: B&U has serviced Tek Rest Stop and thanks for that!. The road is open to the public to mile 30. This could be a record for the earliest but I would have to confirm with some retirees before making such a statement.
