Ranger Update
NPS Denali Patrol #1 (Erickson, Coady, 2 GRTE rangers, 2 VIPs) The patrol is at 14K, happy to share camp wtih Patrol #2, at least for a few days. If they get a good weather window, they will ascend to the 17,200 foot camp.
NPS Denali Patrol #2 (McBrayer and 4 VIPs). The patrol finally got a change of scenery. After a week at 11,200-feet, they reached the 14,200 foot camp yesterday evening.
NPS Denali Patrol #3 (Corn, 4 VIPs, 2 PJ's) Ranger Dan Corn and his fellow patrol members flew into basecamp late yesterday afternoon. They will remain in camp today doing crevasse rescue training, and should begin their ascent tomorrow.
NPS Basecamp Patrol #1 (Reichert, 1 northside ranger, 1 VIP) Joe, Adam, and Kakiko flew out of basecamp yesterday.
NPS Basecamp Patrol #2 (Robinson, 1 northside ranger, 2 VIPs) The patrol also arrived at basecamp yesterday evening, and they will also do some crevasse rescue training later today.
Route Conditions
Conditions are very similar to yesterday, with happy weather at 14K, but grim wind conditions up high. With such fine weather in camp, there's a tendency to second guess the wind forecast up high -- a few teams did day trips up the fixed lines yesterday, but no teams made the full move up to high camp.
Rangers at 14K have established a deeper, more personal relationship with this season's windstorms. In the tradition of naming tropical storms, rangers have dubbed the significant weather events as 'Denali Storm Art', 'Bradford', 'Claude', and 'Daryl'. The current wind event that is starting to kick up was recently christened 'Denali Storm Evans', and they expect Evans will linger awhile.
