Ranger Update:
The first Denali patrol of the season is busy packing today in Talkeetna. The patrol will be led by Rangers Erickson and Westman, and includes four NPS Volunteers-in-Parks (VIPs) and two Air National Guard Pararescuemen from Anchorage. The 8-member patrol flies into Basecamp on May 2; the larger-than-average patrol is necessary as they are responsible for setting up the 14,200-foot camp infrastructure as well as any necessary trail marking and fixed line maintenence.
Rangers McBrayer and Shain returned yesterday from a patrol in the Ruth Amphitheater; their patrol report will be posted separately.
Rangers Chenoweth and Weber are on a climbing patrol of the Sultana Ridge of Mt. Foraker.
Route Conditions:
Still no specific West Buttress route condition reports this early in the season, however according to climber reports around Basecamp and on Mt. Frances, snow conditions are good, with a nice firm snowpack making for easy travelling.
