SRO Update for April 4, 2016

April 04, 2016 Posted by: Riley Tingue, Road Crew Supervisor
Current Plow Crew Work Locations: The crew made it to mile 48 yesterday and should be nearing Toklat today if there is no ice at Culer's Creek. Currently we are matching our progress from last year. While the snow is becoming wet and heavy with the warmer than normal temps, there is still plenty of snow to plow.

Steam Crew Locations: Mile 34, and 36.

Snow Depths: 6' to 8' in the ditch. 30-40'' is the average depth on the road

Aufeis Depths: 0

Road Open to: Savage River. The road is drying out quickly. There are still some sections of ice &mud that we will tend to starting tomorrow. After some grading and a few more days of drying we will open the road to Teklanika Rest Stop for the public.

Equipment Status: All is well. The auto shop has been excellent at repairing all the minor breakdowns that have happened along the way

Road Crew Staff On-Duty Today: Paul Franke, Martin Weiner, Bob James, Mike Merrick, Austin Kinser

Current Weather Forecast

Current Weather at HQ: 43 above and partly sunny

Wildlife Sightings: A wolf at Tek river and a Hawk. 20 Caribou on Tek flats. 4 sheep on Polychrome

Notes/Observations/Comments: We are still ahead of schedule for SRO compared to an average/normal year. However, the road needs to dry before we increase traffic and the weight that comes with it.
