Did you know the Wright Memorial is 81 years old? Believe it or not, that is seven years older than the United States Airforce! This fall Dayton’s memorial to Orville and Wilbur Wright will undergo a series of restorative efforts focused on the stone structure and historic gate. These efforts are being led by Wright Patterson Air Force Base, which took over ownership of the Memorial in 1978 as part of the 75th anniversary of practical flight. This construction project will take approximately a month and may result in limited access to the grounds due to construction. With this in mind the National Park Service has made the decision to temporarily close the Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center from Thursday, September 23, 2021 to Monday, November 1, 2021. This closure will not affect the Huffman Prairie Flying Field, or any of the other National Park Service locations in Dayton, Ohio.
