Power Outage Planned at National Park Visitor Center A planned power outage is scheduled for the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park visitor center on Monday through Wednesday, September 21st –23rd, 2015 as the building is hooked up to underground electricity. Staff will be at the visitor center daily from 8 am to 5 pm to provide information and park maps. Port-a-johns will also be available for walkers and other visitors and will be placed in the visitor center parking area near the visitor center restrooms. Daily walkers are also reminded of the restrooms located in the Bartlett Park picnic area. Having underground electricity to all park buildings will now prevent numerous power interruptions which we have experienced throughout the years due to falling trees and/or heavy snow on power lines. We've worked closely with the contractor to minimize the inconvenience to visitors due to the outage. We've built in a three day schedule for the switchover, but should everything move as planned, the power may be restored in a shorter time frame." The power outage will negate the showing of the park films and the operations of the Eastern National bookstore and Cumberland Crafts. Folks can stay tuned to the progress of the underground electric hookup and resulting power outage by following the national park's Facebook or the Friends of Cumberland Gap National Historical Park's Facebook. |
