Visit Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th and the mountains will indeed be filled with the sound of music as dulcimer aficionados from near and far gather together sharing tunes and jamming.  Park volunteers Terry and Pam Lewis of Ewing, Virginia, who were instrumental in choreographing this third annual gathering and avid dulcimer players themselves, invite all to visit.  “The gathering will again be held at the national park’s Wilderness Road Campground, a perfect setting with its stately pines and natural setting.  Each day, mini-workshops will begin at 10:00 a.m. and each evening, a concert will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the campground amphitheater.”

Park Ranger Sharon Griffin further explains that visitors will be introduced to a variety of dulcimers including the mountain, bass, baritone, bowed and hammered dulcimer.  “I think visitors will be astounded at the variety of dulcimers which will be played during the gathering.  The dulcimer truly represents Appalachia; each type of dulcimer stirs something deep within and carries you back to a bygone time.”  Musicians will also showcase the washtub bass and clawhammer banjo.

All workshops and concerts are free of charge.  The Wilderness Road Campground is located off of Hwy 58 in Virginia, two miles east of its intersection with Hwy 25E near Harrogate, Tennessee.
