Custom Element Filter

This dialog displays when you dynamically filter for Custom Element or CommonSpot form data, for example, when dynamically building an option list for radio button or selection list field types.

You can build simple or complex criteria. Note, however, that the more complex the criteria, and the more records you have, the longer it will take to render Element data that cannot be cached.

This tool is similar to other advanced CommonSpot filter tools. Select from the field dropdowns and add a comparison operator.

Filter Type defaults to All Records. Click Subset of records to restrict results based on specific criteria to match. To build an advanced query, determine the full criteria you wish to build. ( Search Tips in the Contributor's Reference provides more detail.)

  1. Field - Select the field to search against in the Field dropdown. The values you can select are a function of the currently selected Custom Element or form.
  2. Operator - Select the comparison operator (greater than, equal to, within, and the like) from the Operator field. The operators in this dropdown depend upon what you selected in the Field dropdown list.
  3. Value - Enter or select a value. The values available here depend on your selection in the Field dropdown list.
  4. ColdFusion expression - Optionally include date information, or enter an expression to match (see Enter ColdFusion Expression in the Elements Reference).
  5. Parentheses - If you need to group criteria, use parentheses to define logic; for example, "(A or B) and C". Select parentheses from the unlabeled dropdowns that begin and end each set of criteria, as shown below.

To further refine more complex criteria, you can select 1, 2, or 3 parentheses. For example, "((A or B) and C) or D".
  6. Add Criterion - If you are searching for multiple criteria, set the AND or OR operator between each criteria line.

Sort Order gives you options for ordering the results. Pick from the dropdown and choose ascending (A-Z) or descending (Z-A) order. Fields displayed in the Sort Order dropdown are defined in the Data Browser Properties dialog for the Element in the Site Administration - Manage Elements dialog.
