SPRINGFIELD, MA – Springfield Armory National Historic Site (NPS), in partnership with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), will hold a naturalization ceremony on the armory grounds at One Armory Square, Springfield MA 01105 on September 18, 2019. U.S. District Judge Katherine A. Robertson will preside and the clerk of the court will administer the Oath of Allegiance to 150 new citizens.Kelly Fellner, Superintendent of the Springfield Armory National Historical Site and Coltsville National Historical Park is thrilled to host the upcoming ceremony at the Armory during Constitution Week. She states that “Hosting this ceremony is a yearly tradition that is reflective of the diversity of the people who worked at the Springfield Armory throughout its 174 year history.”
The naturalization ceremony is an opportunity to recognize the rights, responsibilities, and importance of citizenship. New citizens, their families, friends, and the public are invited to share in the long tradition of welcoming our new citizens at this memorable event.
The ceremony begins at 12:15 pm with opening words from Fellner, NPS; John Cook, President, Springfield Technical Community College; Domenic Sarno, Mayor, City of Springfield and a representative from the USCIS. Students from the Community Music School of Springfield will provide music and perform the national anthem.
ABOUT THE PARK: The Springfield Armory National Historic Site is the location of the nation’s first armory (1794 – 1968) and was established by George Washington. The site includes historic grounds, buildings, and the world’s largest historic American military firearms collection. There is ample parking and the building is wheelchair accessible.
