October Special Events at Colorado National Monument

Fruita, CO – This fall Colorado National Monument is hosting a variety of special events.

Saturday and Sunday, October 6 & 7 – Plein Air Art Exhibit

Art created in the Colorado National Monument Plein Air event will be on display at the Redlands Community Center (2463 Broadway, Grand Junction, CO 81507). A portion of the proceeds from art sold will benefit educational programs and research at the monument. Saturday hours 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday hours 1000 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Saturday, October 6 - Find Your Park After Dark
Come and view the night sky through large telescopes with the Western Colorado Astronomy Club. This program starts at dusk (about 8:00 p.m.) at the Saddlehorn picnic parking lot. If it is too cloudy or raining, there will be a slideshow at the Visitor Center. Advance registration is not required.

Sunday, October 14 – Celebrate Earth Sciences Week
Join Becky Warren as she highlights different aspects of the geology of the monument. These programs will be in the theater at the Saddlehorn Visitor Center. Due to limited seating reservations are required, call 970-858-3617, ext. 360
•   Ancient Landscapes of the Grand Valley - 12:30 p.m. 
•   Bringing Fossils to Life - 2:30 p.m.

Tuesday, October 30 – Bats of Colorado National Monument
Join Colorado Parks & Wildlife Biologist Dan Neubaum as he highlights one of the emerging threats to the bats of the monument, White-nose Syndrome. Presentation will be in the Saddlehorn Visitor Center theater at 7:00 p.m. Due to limited seating reservations are required, call 970-858-3617, ext. 360

All special programs at the monument are open to the public and free of charge. There is an entrance fee of $15 per vehicle. Monument and America the Beautiful passes are honored. 

Support for all events is provided by Colorado National Monument Association, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit educational organization which helps support educational, scientific, historic, and research projects at Colorado National Monument.
