St. Croix, US Virgin Islands – Starting December 1, 2023, Christiansted National Historic Site will begin offering a host of new, regularly scheduled experiences for Guests.
The America’s National Parks Welcome Center and Park Store will officially reopen. The store has been closed since Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. On December 1, the redesigned store will reopen with a new look including fixtures painted by local artist Isabelle Picard and new products, with more being added. Located inside the historic Scale House, the area will also serve as a welcome center for Guests. The Park Store and Welcome Center will be open seven days a week from 10:00am-4:00pm (closed from 12-1 for lunch).
New public programs will be offered starting December 1 including drop-in style programs and formal fort tours. The programs’ subjects will vary from day to day offering Guests the chance to experience new topics and stories.
Moonlight Movies will continue with films shown on the first and third Friday of the month. The movies have proven to be popular with guests; and the National Parks of St Croix is excited to announce its continuation into the new year.
Bands on the Bay will bring music back to the lawn of Fort Christiansvaern with expanded offerings and different music genres on the second Friday of the month. “Recently Christiansted National Historic site, the National Parks of St Croix, and downtown Christiansted have seen a revitalization from the destruction of the 2017 hurricane season and the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic. We are thrilled to be back, stronger, and better than ever”, said Superintendent Angelita Alvino. “It has been a long road to get to this point and we are excited to have the opportunity to continue to enhance the experiences of locals and tourists alike.”
