The next volume of Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation, a four part History Channel video series, will be presented at Charles Pinckney National Historic Site during the month of August. Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book by Historian Joseph Ellis, this series brings to life the vital issues and personalities from the most important decade in our country’s history. A brief program on Charles Pinckney will be presented by a park ranger before each 50 minute video. For the premiere of Volume IV on August 7, a uniformed soldier of the Continental Army and his wife will be on site from 2:00-3:30.

Thomas Jefferson took office as America’s third president on March 4, 1801, amid federalist fears that he would dismantle the federal government. Ironically, the highlight of his administration, the Louisiana Purchase, would eventually require dramatic federal expansion. In contrast to his old adversary, Alexander Hamilton had been reduced to the role of political spectator, but when Aaron Burr campaigned to become governor of New York, the federalist firebrand threw his weight behind the opposition, leading to the most famous duel in American history, Hamilton’s death and the de-facto end of Burr’s political career. Founding Brothers concludes with the poignant tale of the reconciliation between Adams and Jefferson. Beginning in 1812, the two men corresponded regularly until their deaths. Their letters, written with an eye to posterity, perfectly capture the legacy of the Revolutionary Generation.

Don’t miss the encore presentation of Founding Brothers next month. In September, each of the four volumes will be replayed on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. beginning with Volume I on September 4 and concluding with Volume IV on September 25.

Charles Pinckney National Historic Site commemorates a principal framer and signer of the United States Constitution. The park is situated on a 28-acre remnant of Snee Farm, Pinckney’s coastal plantation, located at 1254 Long Point Road in Mt. Pleasant.
