Charles Pinckney NHS will host its 22nd Naturalization Ceremony on Thursday, September 19 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Every year, approximately 100 individuals from countries all over the world take the Oath of Citizenship during this ceremony. This event is free and open to the public. The park is located at 1254 Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant, SC.
The National Park Service and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services continue to work together to enhance citizenship ceremonies by holding them in national parks throughout the country. Since 1997, these ceremonies have been held annually on the grounds of historic Snee Farm, which was once owned by Charles Pinckney. “The National Park Service is honored to play a small role in this significant personal milestone for some of our country's newest citizens. What more fitting place for a new citizen to pledge their allegiance and support to these United States and its Constitution than at a site dedicated to highlighting one of the Constitution's framers and early supporters,” said Superintendent Tracy Stakely. ”We welcome the public to come and help us celebrate citizenship and the diversity of America." Upon taking the Oath of Citizenship, the final step in a long and challenging process, these new American citizens will have the full rights and protections granted by the US Constitution.
Several organizations and individuals will contribute to making the event a unique and unforgettable experience; The Citadel Color Guard will present and retire the colors, a 5th grade student from Palmetto Christian Academy will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and Anne Caldwell will perform patriotic and spiritual songs to welcome the new citizens. Also on hand to provide fanfare and support services for America’s newest citizens will be the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, American Red Cross, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, the League of Women Voters, and U.S. Passport Services.
The park is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. It is a fee-free site. The site is home to an 1828 Lowcountry coastal cottage that serves as a museum and visitor center. Park grounds boast a variety of Camilla bushes and towering canopies of live oak and Spanish moss. Exhibits tell the story of Charles Pinckney and his contributions to the US Constitution, the United States as a young and emerging nation, and 1700s plantation life. Visitors can enjoy films, exhibits, archeological displays, the grounds and a nature trail, picnicking, Junior Ranger activities and ranger programs.
Now entering its second century, the National Park Service continues to explore new ways to help visitors connect and find their parks. For more information on park news, events, and programs, follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/
