Mount Pleasant, S.C- On Wednesday, September 20, Charles Pinckney National Historic Site hosted a Naturalization Ceremony in partnership with the Charleston office of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. A class of 130 applicants from 57 different countries proudly took the Oath of Citizenship, administered by the honorable US District Court Judge Richard Gergel.  With over 550 people in attendance, it was a momentous occasion for all as the United States accepted its newest American citizens.

“It is an honor to be involved in such an important and life changing event,” said Superintendent Tracy Stakely.  “To welcome a new group of American citizens at the site that commemorates the life of Charles Pinckney and his role as a framer and signer of the US Constitution is most fitting.”

Naturalization Ceremonies have taken place at Charles Pinckney National Historic Site since 1997.  This was the first Naturalization Ceremony to take place at the park since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
