C&O Canal National Historical Park Invites Public to Comment on Proposed Project - Retaining Wall, 11900 River Road, Potomac, Maryland
Hagerstown, Md. – The National Park Service (NPS) is holding a public scoping meeting as a step towards evaluating a request from the property owner of 11900 River Road, Potomac, Maryland to rebuild a failed retaining wall within the scenic easement the NPS holds on the property. The proposed project falls within 200 feet of the canal in an area of the scenic easement where the construction or replacement of structures is prohibited. The meeting will be held on November 7, 2007, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Hoover Middle School (Montgomery County), 8810 Postoak Road, Potomac, Maryland 20854. The meeting will present information on the proposed project and solicit the public’s comment on potential impacts to park resources. All interested citizens are invited to attend.
In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other laws, regulations and policies, the NPS invites public scoping comments regarding this project. Comments received will be used to develop and guide the environmental evaluation for the project. The National Park Service began the public comment period on November 1, 2007. Comments can be made through November 30, 2007.
