C&O Canal Launches National Park Service Centennial Initiative
Hagerstown, MD. – Chesapeake and Ohio CanalNational Historical Park will be launching the National Park Service Centennial Initiative by holding public listening sessions Superintendent Kevin Brandt announced today. The first listening session for the C&OCanal will be held on Monday, March 26, 2007, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at C&O Canal National Historical Park Headquarters, 1850 Dual Highway, HagerstownMaryland.
President Bush directed Secretary of the Interior Kempthorne to “invite and receive suggestions from those who desire to preserve the scenic, cultural, historical, geological and recreational values of our national parks.” To accomplish this for the Chesapeake and OhioCanalNationalHistoricalPark several public listening sessions have been scheduled parkwide to provide a venue to accomplish purpose. These gatherings are an opportunity to engender public support, and to assist the Chesapeake and OhioCanalNationalHistoricalPark in formulating the long-term goals, park projects, and programs of the National Park Service Centennial Initiative.
