2024 Summer Teacher Internships

Duration, Schedule, Work Location:
7-Week Internship (Approx. 40 hrs. per week, flexible days/hours).
Flexible Start/End Dates between: June 10th to August 2nd, 2024.
Teachers will meet in-person and/or virtually one day each week. Remote work and flexible hours offered.
The curricula development will focus on the C&O Canal at Williamsport (Washington County, Maryland). However, most of the curricula development project can be done remotely.

Internship Description:
This summer we are looking forward to collaborating with Summer Teacher Interns on a Curricula Development Project. We will aim to develop curriculum programs and activities that can be offered to school children visiting the park for field trips. The focus of the project will be at the C&O Canal's Williamsport location. Curricula will feature interdisciplinary activities (history, science, environmental education), and will be aligned with national and/or state learning standards. We will aim to meet in-person or virtually one day a week for the duration of the project. The remaining project hours for developing curricula can be done remotely and in support of your schedule. At the end of the summer, we aim to have 3-4 curriculum programs to offer as field trips for elementary students visiting the park!

Stipend:

  • One-time travel allowance: $610(personal vehicle required for commuting)*
  • Internship Stipend: $600/weekly (Total 7-Week Stipend: $4,200)
*All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes*


Member Qualifications:

  • Driver's license. Personal vehicle required.

  • Local candidates preferred: No housing offered at the site.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience creating curriculum, teaching youth in a formal or informal setting, and a working knowledge of elementary school subjects and standards including history, nature, science, and math.
  • Must have a laptop or other digital device and internet for team collaboration, access to platforms for working on curriculum, and for remote work.
