The winning entries from this year’s California Coastal Art & Poetry Contest will be on display at the Channel Islands National Park Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center from Saturday, September 15, 2018 through Sunday, November 18, 2018.

A special unveiling of the artwork will occur on Saturday, September 15 during Coastal Cleanup Day at 11:30 am. Coastal Cleanup Day is an organized day of service for the community to collect trash from local beaches, dunes and shorelines.

Ventura kindergartener, Serenity Rayne Holmes, received an honorable mention for her watercolor of two whales titled “Father.” Marina Zellers, a high school senior from Lompoc received an honorable mention for her illustration titled “Crowded.” The art and poetry display includes 47 winning pieces from over 2,500 entries.

The annual contest is designed to encourage youth to reflect on the beauty and spirit of California's coasts and ocean. Through this effort, the California Coastal Commission hopes to inspire a greater sense of appreciation and stewardship for these natural places.

Channel Islands National Park welcomes the public to join a coastal cleanup from 8:30 to 11:30 am at 1901 Spinnaker Drive in the Ventura Harbor on Saturday, September 15, 2018.
