There is 40 percent containment of the wildfire on Eastern Santa Cruz Island as a result of retardant and water drops by four aircraft and the fire lines constructed by Los Padres Interagency Hot Shot crew.The wildfire has grown to an estimated 450 acres extending in an eastward direction from the landing area at Scorpion Valley on Santa Cruz Island. The Scorpion Fire started this morning at approximately 10:30 am.
An additional crew of 21 wildland firefighters from Santa Barbara County Fire is joining the Los Padres Interagency Hot Shot crew this evening to battle the blaze. A third 20-person fire crew has been ordered along with another Forest Service helicopter which is expected to arrive tomorrow from Bishop, CA.
At this time, no structures have been damaged or are threatened by the fire and there are no injuries.
