Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend a special 90-minute, mile and a half walking tour of Chickamauga Battlefield on Saturday,

January 9, 2016, at 2 pm. Participants will meet at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center and caravan to the Snodgrass Cabin (Tour Stop 8), where they will walk to various points on Horseshoe Ridge.

Visitors will explore a part of the battlefield that is not often seen –the terrain that affected the actions that permitted a portion of the US Army of the Cumberland to successfully defend and halt repeated Confederate assaults against their position on the afternoon of September 20, 1863. This walking tour will take advantage of the lack of foliage to view the terrain features that played such an important role in the battle.

A good understanding of the ground often determines who will win and who will lose in a battle, and it also plays a big role in being able to understand the events and stories that occurred on a battlefield many years later. Participants are encouraged to come learn about how the landscape shaped the Battle of Chickamauga.

Please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.Water is recommended.
