Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend a special, 90-minute caravan tour on Sunday, July 31 at 1 pm at Chickamauga Battlefield. This program is being conducted in conjunction with the 200th anniversary of General George Thomas' birth and will caravan to the sites of General Thomas' headquarters on the battlefield.

During the Battle of Chickamauga, as the right wing of the Union army collapsed, the Union left wing, under the leadership of Major General George Thomas, held as sturdy as an oak.Throughout the afternoon, Thomas provided the leadership needed to hold off a multitude of Confederate assaults and to calmly withdraw the remainder of the Army of the Cumberland as nightfall approached.Come and learn how the general's inherently strong convictions and loyalties assisted in the battle's outcome.
