Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park in conjunction with Friends of Moccasin Bend Inc., invites the public to the grand opening of the Brown's Ferry Federal Road on Saturday, October 26th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. This rediscovered .6 mile road trace was the route to the Brown's Ferry river crossing on Moccasin Bend during the forced removal of Cherokee and Creek Indians to Indian Territory (modern day Oklahoma). The road trace has been cleared of vegetation and interpretive signs have been placed along the route. The grand opening is in commemoration of the 175th Anniversary of the Trail of Tears.

Buses will be available to transport participants to the grand opening site beginning at 9:15 a.m. from the parking area at the Friends of Moccasin Bend offices at 175 Hamm Road, Chattanooga, TN. Following the grand opening there will be a guided interpretive walk at 11:00 a.m. along the trace to the Tennessee River. This 90-minute ranger guided walk will discuss the importance of the Brown's Ferry Federal Road property related to Indian Removal of 1838.

The walk will be repeated at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on October 26th and on October 27th at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Parking for these guided walks will also occur from the parking area at the Friends of Moccasin Bend offices at 175 Hamm Road, Chattanooga, TN with bus transportation to the site.
