Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park Superintendent Brad Bennett announces that a general management planning effort focused on Moccasin Bend Archeological District is now underway. The planning effort will amend the 1988 General Management Plan of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park to guide decisions about future natural and cultural resource conditions, as well as visitor experience opportunities on Moccasin Bend. The National Park Service has developed three preliminary alternative management concepts for the Bend for public review and comment. The preliminary alternatives and proposed management zones for Moccasin Bend can be viewed at: www.parkplanning.nps.gov/chch. Comments can be submitted electronically through the website from September 24 through November 13, 2015. The park will host the first of two public meetings on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, from 3 pm through 6 pm at the gateway site to Moccasin Bend National Archeological District on Hamm Road on Chattanooga's North Shore;formal presentations will be at 4 pm and 5 pm. A second public meeting will take place on Thursday, October 22, 2015, from 4 pm through 7 pm at Outdoor Chattanooga,200 River Street in Chattanooga's Coolidge Park;formal presentations will take place at 5 pm and 6 pm. The purpose of both public meetings is for the National Park Service to describe alternatives and hear your ideas, concerns, and hopes for the future of this special place.
