Fort Oglethorpe, GA:Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is advising the public that the actual road closures for this project will begin February 17, 2015 and continue through June 2015.
The road closure will be completed using four phases of construction:
Prior to the start of the Lafayette Road resurfacing project, underground service work is planned to begin on February 17, 2015.This work will include the installation of the underground utility conduit servicing the traffic light at the intersection of Reed's Bridge Lafayette Roads.This work may cause intermittent traffic delays along Reeds Bridge and Lafayette Roads.
The first phase will begin on or about March 2, 2015 and continue through April 10, 2015.The project will include the traffic light replacement at the Reeds Bridge Road/McFarland Gap Road intersection, asphalt resurfacing extending to, but not including, the Glenn-Kelly Road/Alexander Bridge Road intersection including the resurfacing of the Visitor Center parking lot.Temporary employee and visitor parking to the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center will be provided in McDonald Field, adjacent to the visitor center.Handicap parking will be provided near the visitor center throughout the project.
The second phase will begin on or about April 11, 2015 and continue through May 10, 2015. This part of the project will include the Glenn-Kelly Road/Alexander Bridge Road intersection and extend to Brotherton Road, near the Brotherton Cabin.
The third phase will begin on or about May 11, 2015 and continue through June 14, 2015. This part of the project will extend from Brotherton Road, near the Brotherton Cabin, to the park's southern boundary.
Please keep in mind that ALL roads within the park boundary will be affected by this closure.There will be access for government and emergency services at all times, however drivers must be aware that Lafayette Road will be closed with detours identified.
