Eli Lilly: "Take What You Find Here and Make it Better"

Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a 60-minute program on February 11, 2017, beginning at 2pm at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. This program will caravan to Tour Stop #5, then hike to Lilly’s battery of artillery in Viniard Field.  
 
Prior to the American Civil War, Eli Lilly found himself working as a pharmacist, inventing medicines that would help provide good health for the American public. Lilly was an innovator when it came to producing drugs that would help people. During the war, he found himself under the command of Col. J.T. Wilder, where he used that same innovation to put together an artillery battery like no other. On September 19, 1863, his battery saw fierce fighting in Viniard field during the Battle of Chickamauga. This same innovation and drive followed Lilly after the war, back into his pharmaceutical business. Today, we still see that innovation in the business he founded, and we live under the ideas that Lilly put forth and the American government adopted.
